Belfast Airport have recently announced that they have seen 24 months of consecutive double-digit passenger growth, thanks to the core success of the airlines that operate from the airport.
565,862 passengers passed through the doors of the airport in July, which is a 14.5% improvement of the same month in 2016. If that wasn't enough, more than 501,000 passengers were recorded to have flown through the airport in the first 6 months of 2017 alone!
Belfast International Airport managing director Graham Keddie hailed the strong results as a "remarkable achievement".
“We're having our busiest ever summer season and strong monthly growth is being achieved. Twenty-four months of unbroken, consecutive double-digit growth is a remarkable achievement. It is a tremendous milestone, and more of the same is on the way. “
Belfast Airport can also boast that they have created an impressive 250 new jobs within the first half of 2017. As a result of all of the positive changes, the airport is on track to achieve a record breaking year, hopefully surpassing 5.75 million passenger numbers.
Mr Keddie went on to say “We've seen significant private investment in facilities by food and beverage providers and airside retailers, and that, too, will continue as they expand facilities.”
Norwegian Airlines have recently commenced TransAtlantic flights from the airport which will provide a huge boost to long-haul flight numbers.
Another milestone for Scotland’s biggest airport was the Belfast-Gatwick route, operated by Easyjet and Ryanair. which achieved over 1 million passengers. Other popular holiday destinations also includes Malaga, Alicante, Faro and Palma all recording significant growth.
