New flight to Reykjavik From Belfast Airport!

A new route has been announced from George Best Belfast City Airport to Reykjavik, Iceland, thank to Icelandair! The flights which will take off from June 1st 2017 will travel 3 times a week as part of a new service from the Irish Airport!

Birkir Holm Guðnason, Icelandair chief executive, said.

“Belfast is a vibrant fast growing city with great business and leisure opportunities and we are happy to be able to offer our customers this exciting addition to our network”.

The flights will take place using a 72-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft and he estimated flight duration leaving Keflavík International Airport (KEF) to George Best City Airport (BHD) is around 2 hours and 55 minutes. Reykjavik, is also served as a destination from Belfast International by Easyjet.

Katy Best, commercial and marketing director at Belfast City Airport, said:"Belfast City Airport is delighted to announce our new three-times weekly flight to Reykjavik, which is a further extension of our growing European route network and a major boost to the Northern Ireland economy.

"Icelandair has a proven international pedigree and our partnership with the airline for this new service will be a hugely welcome addition to the local market for business and leisure passengers."

Belfast City Airport opened its doors for commercial operations in 1983. Previously known as “Belfast City Airport" before being renamed after the late George Best football player, saw an amazing 2.7 million passengers use its facilities in 2015, with its main domestic and international destinations being London Heathrow and Faro (Portugal).

Economy Minister, Simon Hamilton MLA, mentioned that the changes made to updating new routes would more than likely increase hard work at the airport which is a positive improvement, while also being a great opportunity for the airport to develop global communications with other airlines and airports.
